Richard A. “Dick” Barone, 93, of East Hartford, loving husband of over 64 years of the late Rose Marie (DeBella) Barone, peacefully went to join his wife in heaven on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 with his caring family close by. Born in Hartford on February 5, 1932, a son of the late Alphonse and Mary (Ierardi) Barone, he had been a resident of Cheney Lane, East Hartford for 58 years. Richard was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, class of 1950, and earned his associate’s degree from UConn in engineering. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 30 years by Southern New England Telephone Company as a telephone engineer.
Richard was an avid UConn basketball fan of both the men and women teams. He enjoyed traveling with his wife around the country for games, championships, and numerous Final Four tournaments. In 1984, he and his wife purchased their beach home in Charlestown, RI where he loved spending his summer days and special days. He was the happiest man when his children, grandchildren, friends, or anyone came to visit them at the beach.
A devout catholic, Richard was a faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford for over 60 years and St. James Church in Charlestown, RI. He was a member of the Glenbrooke Swim & Tennis Club in East Hartford, The East Hartford Racquet Club, and Ninigret Park in Rhode Island. Richard was a lifelong swimmer from the swim team at Bulkeley High School to Lake Hayward, to daily lap swimming at Glenbrooke and at Health Trax. He even installed a pool at his beach house so that he could do daily swims there. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, council #4 in East Hartford, the Telephone Pioneers, and worked many elections as the Election Day Moderator at the St. Christopher polling location. He was talented with all kinds of hands-on projects around his homes (painting, wallpaper, stencils, building doll houses, rewiring lamps) – you name it, he could fix it or at least try to be successful!
Richard is survived by his four children, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren: daughter Judi Shok and her husband Marc of Salem, VA and their children, Richard Shok and his wife Allison and their children Theo and Spencer, Emily Lunny and her husband Conor; son Matthew F. Barone and his wife Sharon of Wethersfield and their children, Alyssa DeLuca and her husband Rico and their children Vivian and Cameron, Nicholas Barone and his fiancée Brianna Birchall; daughter, Andrea B. He also leaves a niece, Debbie Savitsky and her husband Alex of Colchester; two nephews, Michael Barone and his wife Darlene of Midlothian, VA, Albert Barone and his wife Carole of Colchester; and several dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by a grandson, Alexander Shok; and a brother, Al Barone of Boynton Beach, FL.
