Richard Dubay

Richard “Dick” Thomas Dubay, 84, formerly of Ellington, loving husband of over 51 years to the late Mary (Grogan) Dubay, peacefully entered into eternal life to join his beloved wife in heaven on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Born in Hartford on January 12, 1942, a son of the late Theodore “Ted” and Rose (Arsenault) Dubay, he had been a resident of Ellington for 45 years. Dick went to schools in Hartford and graduated from Hartford Public High School, class of 1960, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Ricker College in Houlton, Maine. He would then serve his country and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.

Dick worked as an IT Technician throughout his career in aerospace. He started with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford then went to work for Gerber Scientific in Vernon. He would later retire from UTC Fuel Cell in South Windsor after many years of dedicated service.

Dick enjoyed being a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #19 in Hartford and the Rockville Elks Lodge #1359 in Vernon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #14 in Vernon. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and unique to our area, a fan of the New Orleans Saints football team. Most of all, Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time at the family lake house on Beaver Lake in Ware, Mass.

Dick is survived by his son, Curtis S. Dubay and his wife Johanna of Washington, D.C.; and his three special grandsons, Theodore Dubay, Patrick Dubay, and William Dubay all of Washington, D.C. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Diane “Dee” Dubay of West Hartford; two nieces, Debbie Daddabo and her husband Jeff of Plainville, Geri-Lyn Dubay of Plainville; his dear friends, Norm Bernier and his wife Elaine of Farmington; several other in-laws, family members and friends. Along with his beloved wife and parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother, Gerard “Jerry” Dubay of West Hartford, and his nephew, Michael Dubay also of West Hartford .

Funeral services will be Wednesday (September 2, 2026) with a joint Mass of Christian Burial for both Dick and his wife Mary celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Luke’s Church, 141 Maple Street, Ellington. Burial will follow for Dick and Mary at Ellington Center Cemetery (Section 7) in Ellington. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT, 10 Executive Drive, Suite 202, Farmington, CT 06032.
