

Richard J. “Dick” Sullivan, 91, of East Hartford, beloved husband for 44 years of Anne (Kennedy) Sullivan, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Born in Hartford on July 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Timothy F. Sullivan and Madeline (Keenan) Sullivan and lived his entire life in East Hartford. He attended St. Mary’s School and East Hartford High School, Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an airplane mechanic and was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Dick enjoyed working on anything mechanical. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading historical novels. He also loved discussing politics, creative cooking and attending family gatherings. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lt. Francis T. Sullivan; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Kenneth Miller, and a brother-in-law, Richard P. Fitzgerald. In addition to his devoted wife Anne, Dick will be dearly missed by his loving son, Timothy F. Sullivan of East Hartford; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Willard Skehan of Hebron, and a brother-in-law William Kennedy (Kathy) of Naples, FL. He was a special person in the lives of his nieces, Diane M. Fitzgerald (Kevin McKenna), Carol F. Scully (John Scully), all of Hebron and his nephew, Mark Fitzgerald (Carol Fitzgerald) of Bethesda, MD. In addition, he was a loving uncle to Kathleen Melly (Peter) of Farmington, Richard Miller (Roberta) of Cape Elizabeth, ME and James Miller (Rita) of Wallingford. He also leaves many devoted grand-nieces and nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (April 11) at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 36 Cambridge St., East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Hartford. Family and friends may call prior to the Mass, from 9:30-10:15 a.m., at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford.
