Rosa Fuentes

Born on March 1, 1934, in Comerío, Puerto Rico, Rosa was the beloved daughter of the late Adelo and Francisca Fuentes-Báez. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Celio Fuentes – and by her beloved husband of many years, Eugenio Fuentes.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth, resilience, and unconditional love touched the lives of all who knew her. Rosa dedicated her life to caring for her family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and unforgettable memories that will be cherished for generations. Rosa was known for her generosity, unwavering faith, wisdom, sense of humor, incredible cooking, storytelling, and remarkable strength. She found joy in gardening, attending church, preparing meals for loved ones, visiting Puerto Rico, and gathering with family. Above all else, she treasured every moment spent surrounded by those she loved most. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Rosa worked in the coffee and tobacco fields in Puerto Rico. In the winter of 1973, she made the courageous decision to move her family to Connecticut in pursuit of greater opportunities and a better future for her children. Her sacrifice, determination, and perseverance became the foundation upon which her family’s legacy was built. In 1980, she volunteered with the American Red Cross and later worked at a laundromat throughout the 1980s, always leading with humility, grace, and an unmatched work ethic.

Rosa is survived by her eight beloved children. From her marriage to Regino Guzman from 1950 to 1955: Luis Manuel Guzman, Jorge Guzman, Aurea Esther Guzman, and Victor Manuel Guzman. With Hermenejildo Cartagena, she lovingly welcomed Jose Antonio Cartagena, Reinaldo Cartagena, Betzaida Cartagena, and Jose Enrique Cartagena. She also leaves behind 36 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and countless extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know and love her.

Rosa was truly one of a kind — a timeless gem whose strength, love, and spirit will continue to live on through every generation of her family. Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that her love, lessons, and legacy will remain with us forever.

Con profundo amor y una inmensa tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de Rosa Fuentes, quien partió en paz al descanso eterno el 18 de mayo de 2026, a la edad de 92 años.

Nacida el 1 de marzo de 1934 en Comerío, Puerto Rico, Rosa fue la querida hija de los ya fallecidos Adelo y Francisca Fuentes-Báez. Fue precedida en muerte por su amado hermano, Celio Fuentes, y por su querido esposo de muchos años, Eugenio Fuentes.

Rosa fue una madre, abuela, hermana, tía y amiga devota, cuya calidez, fortaleza y amor incondicional tocaron la vida de todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla. Dedicó su vida al cuidado de su familia, creando un hogar lleno de amor, risas, fe y recuerdos inolvidables que serán atesorados por generaciones.

Rosa era conocida por su generosidad, su fe inquebrantable, su sabiduría, su sentido del humor, su increíble cocina, sus historias y su admirable fortaleza. Disfrutaba de la jardinería, asistir a la iglesia, preparar comidas para sus seres queridos, visitar Puerto Rico y compartir en familia. Por encima de todo, valoraba cada momento rodeada de las personas que más amaba.

Durante finales de los años 60 y principios de los 70, Rosa trabajó en los campos de café y tabaco en Puerto Rico. En el invierno de 1973, tomó la valiente decisión de mudarse junto a su familia a Connecticut en busca de mejores oportunidades y un mejor futuro para sus hijos. Su sacrificio, determinación y perseverancia se convirtieron en la base sobre la cual se construyó el legado de su familia. En 1980, ofreció su tiempo como voluntaria para la Cruz Roja Americana y más adelante trabajó en una lavandería durante la década de los 80, siempre destacándose por su humildad, gracia y una ética de trabajo inigualable.

Rosa deja en vida a sus ocho amados hijos. De su matrimonio con Regino Guzmán, de 1950 a 1955: Luis Manuel Guzmán, Jorge Guzmán, Aurea Esther Guzmán y Víctor Manuel Guzmán. Junto a Hermenejildo Cartagena, recibió con amor a José Antonio Cartagena, Reinaldo Cartagena, Betzaida Cartagena y José Enrique Cartagena. También deja 36 nietos, 40 bisnietos, 6 tataranietos, además de incontables familiares y amistades que fueron bendecidos de conocerla y amarla.

Rosa fue verdaderamente única — una joya eterna cuya fuerza, amor y espíritu vivirán por siempre a través de cada generación de su familia. Aunque hoy nuestros corazones están llenos de dolor, encontramos consuelo al saber que su amor, enseñanzas y legado permanecerán con nosotros para siempre.
