

Rose Bretz Jenkins, 97, formerly of East Hartford, peacefully passed away with her caring family by her side on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Rose was the loving wife of 57 years of the late Ray T. Jenkins, Jr. Rose was born in Erie, PA on October 28, 1918, a daughter of the late Stefan and Rose (Melzer) Bretz and had lived in Erie until she married her late husband Ray in 1951. She moved to East Hartford and resided there for over 60 years. Rose enjoyed cooking, sewing, and traveling. She and her family enjoyed their summers at Coventry Lake and the many meaningful relationships they made while there. She also enjoyed spending holidays with her son Paul, Kristine and had a very close and loving relationship with her granddaughter Allison.
Rose is survived by her beloved son, Paul R. Jenkins and his wife, Kristine of South Windsor; a special granddaughter, Allison P. Jenkins and her fiancée Scott MacDonald of Enfield; a brother, Raymond Bretz and his wife Carol of Erie, PA; a step-daughter, Diana L. Miel and her husband Roger of Greenville, SC; two other granddaughters, Marya and Brenna; a grandson, Gregg Daniels; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides her husband and parents Rose was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret, Jean, Esther, George, and Al.
Funeral service will be Friday (September 9, 2016) at 7 pm at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday evening from 5-7 pm. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
