Samuel U. Wright

Samuel U. “Sammy” Wright, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of 56 years of Joy V. (Goodwin) Wright, peacefully entered into eternal rest with his caring family by his side on Sunday, November 12, 2023. Born in Jamaica on September 14, 1933, a son of the late Edgerton and Alice May (Jones) Wright, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 39 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Machinist for 32 years by ACME in West Hartford. He enjoyed watching soccer, playing lottery tickets, visiting his homeland in Jamaica, working on his own automobiles, and was known for his willingness to help his family and friends with their automobiles. Most of all, Sammy was a devoted and proud husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time spent with his entire family.

In addition to his beloved wife Joy, Sammy is survived by two daughters, Sandra Dee Wright of Manchester, Carolann Wright and her husband Loren Duncan of East Hartford with whom he made his home; a step-daughter, Juanita Marius of East Hartford; three adored grandchildren, Kemo Grant of Manchester, Delano Duncan and his significant other Kristina of East Hartford, Daniella Duncan of East Hartford; and one special great-grandson. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Morris Goodwin and his wife Yvonne of Coral Springs, FL, Earl Goodwin of East Hartford; two sisters-in-law, Daisy Goodwin and Joan Smythe both of New York, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday (December 2, 2023) at 11 am at the D’Esopo East Harford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Sammy’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday morning (December 2, 2023) from 10 – 11 am at the funeral home chapel.
