

Santo J. Alleano, Jr., 79, of East Hartford, loving husband of 57 years of Virginia “Ginny” (Marques) Alleano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his caring family on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on January 6, 1942, a son of the late Santo Sr. and Lucy (Buccheri) Alleano, he had been a lifelong resident of East Hartford. Santo was a graduate of Hartford Regional Technical School, Class of 1959 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Santo retired as a Firefighter from the Town of East Hartford Fire Department after 32 years of dedicated service. During his career he was instrumental in helping form the EMS Program in East Hartford and served as ex-officio to the EMS Commission for many years. He was a past President of the East Hartford Firefighter Local #1548 for 19 years, and a past Vice President of the Connecticut Uniformed Firefighters Association for 15 years. Santo also worked for over twenty years for Terragna Concrete and for S & S Caterers of East Hartford, and was a Host and Greeter at the former Marco Polo Restaurant in East Hartford for ten years.
Santo was the longest active member of the Volunteer Hose Company #3 in East Hartford where he enjoyed cooking on Thursday evenings for the members to enjoy his famous hot peppers, and sausage and pepper grinders. He was also a member of the Hartford Elks Club and former East Hartford Elks Lodge #2063, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus-Rev. J.C. Martin Council #3901 of East Hartford.
Santo also gave back to his community by performing volunteer work to several non-profit organizations, especially for the “Make-A-Wish Foundation”. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, hunting with his brother-in-law and friends, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants.
Along with his beloved wife Ginny, Santo is survived by his two devoted daughters, Lisa Bell and her husband Raymond of Hebron, Karen Alleano of Cromwell; and two adored grandchildren, Jack Bell and Addison Bell both of Hebron. He also leaves a sister, Ann Marie Plaksa of East Hartford; two brothers, Robert Alleano and his wife Margaret of East Hartford, Angelo Alleano and his wife Joann of South Windsor; a special brother-in-law, Richard Marques and his wife Sandra of East Hartford; a special sister-in-law, Dolores Quick and her husband Ed of Glastonbury; a cherished friend who was like a son, Steven Tuller of East Hartford; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday (June 26, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Rose Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Entombment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Santo’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (June 25, 2021) from 3– 7 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Santo’s name may be made to the East Hartford Fire Department-EMS Fund, 31 School Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.
