Thomas “Tom” Michael Jarish, 62, of East Hartford, loving and devoted husband of 37 years to Sandra J. (Daversa) Jarish, entered eternal life with his beloved family by his side on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Born in Manchester on December 26, 1963, a son of the late Thomas Howard and Mary Joyce (Tischofer) Jarish, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Tom was a graduate of East Catholic High School in Manchester, Class of 1981 where he was a member the boys’ soccer team. He would then continue his education at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.
Tom started his career as a young boy pumping gas and turning wrenches at his grandfather’s service station “Charlie’s” on Burnside Ave, East Hartford. As a hardworking and dedicated employee, he would continue there for several years before working his way up to General Manager of United Road Towing in East Hartford. Tom would later become the Office Manager of Central Sealing & Paving in East Hartford. Finally, in 2014, Tom pursued his lifelong dream of owning and operating his own business. He combined his passion for cooking with his love of meeting new people by taking ownership of The Country Snack Bar Restaurant on Route 44 in Coventry, CT, which was a staple in the community for over 10 years. Throughout his time at the restaurant, he enjoyed working side by side with his two sons. Tom was loved by his restaurant patrons and had many loyal customers. After a long and dedicated life of work that serviced the community in many ways, Tom happily retired in October of 2024.
As a devout catholic, Tom regularly practiced in several of the area churches such as St. Isaac Jogues, St. Christopher, and St. Francis of Assisi. He was a long-time active member of Hose Company #3 in East Hartford where he was known for his homemade Thursday night and Sunday dinners. Tom was an active member of the Manchester Elks Lodge #1893 and a former member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #2063 of East Hartford and East Hartford Rotary Club.
Tom enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering his time as a head coach, manager, and director for both of his sons youth sports leagues such as East Hartford National Little League, East Hartford Babe Ruth League, East Hartford Youth Soccer League, St. Christopher’s School boys’ basketball and the school’s soccer team. He felt great joy in being a coach and role model for all who played for him. While involved with EHLL, Tom spearheaded improvement initiatives such as fall ball and various field improvements to Gorman Park baseball field.
Tom was a passionate sports fan, especially of Boston sports teams. He would never pass up a trip to Fenway Park for a night game and sausage and peppers. He had a deep love of music, attending many concerts and live band shows with friends and his family. He greatly enjoyed his weekend trips up to Saratoga Racetrack with his family. Tom was an avid golfer at Manchester Country Club, Countryside Country Club in Naples, FL, and was a former longtime member of the Men’s League at East Hartford Golf Club. While he enjoyed his time on the golf course, the beach was where he was happiest. Tom, lately, would spend almost every weekend enjoying the Southeastern Long Island Sound boating around Watch Hill, Fishers Island, and the Niantic area with his family, friends, and swimming partner, Finnegan, the family dog. In the colder months, he and his family took weekly trips up north to ski mountains such as Killington, Stowe, and Okemo. Although in the past decade, Tom received great joy in spending the winter months down in Naples, FL where he and Sandy had their own condo at Countryside Golf & Country Club. This was truly a second home for them where great times and memories were formed with family, friends and neighbors. Most of all, Tom was a true gentleman who deeply loved his family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and uncle who would do anything at the drop of a hat for them. He truly cherished each moment spent with his entire family including all their travels and adventures. Tom was most proud of his two sons and the men they became.
