

Walter Oliver 'Ollie'Braun, 82, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Madeline (Colone) Braun of 52 years, passed away peacefully at home amongst his loving family on Monday (March 30, 2009). Born in West Hartford on November 8, 1926, a son of the late Albert and Emma Braun, he had resided in East Hartford for the past 48 years. He was the youngest of ten children and is survived by his loving sisters, Angela Scheuy of Rockville and Gilbette Anderson of West Hartford. Walter is also survived by his five adoring daughters, Barbara Doran and her significant other Amato Capossella of East Windsor, Cynthia Kershaw of East Hartford, Diana Hansen and her husband Thomas of East Hampton, Laurie Spillman and her husband Glenn of Andover, Madeline Schultz and her husband Mark of Bolton; a son-in-law, Thomas Kershaw of East Hartford; his 11 special grandchildren, Damian Doran, Kristina Doran, Brendan Doran, Nicole Kershaw, Matthew Kershaw, Justin Barall, Chloe Hansen, Gregory Spillman, James Spillman, Jamie Spillman, and Corey Garrison; four great-grandchildren, Anthony Kershaw, Emily Oliveras, Tyler Rancourt and Olivia Madeline Doran; and several nieces and nephews. Ollie was employed by Fenn Manufacturing prior to retiring from General Electric in Windsor Locks in 1990, after a 22-year career. As a retiree he enjoyed working part-time as both a security guard at Rentschler Field and a crossing guard in East Hartford. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford and a member of their Retirees Club. He was his large family's full-time 'handy man' and if you look around his family's homes you will surely find many 'Wally Jobs' as Walter and his family affectionately called his handiwork. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed riding his bike with his great-grandchildren, baking cookies, relaxing by the pool with his family and was never too busy to help a friend or family member. He taught everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him how to enjoy life and what was truly important. Funeral services will be Friday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will be at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
