

Born in New Mexico to Susan E. and Kenneth W. Townsend, Wayne grew up a farm boy in Bentonville, Arkansas. In high school and college, he enjoyed bowling and playing catcher for the school baseball team. He joined the United States Navy in 1981 and served on a submarine until 1987 when he was discharged honorably as an EM1 -- Enlisted Petty Officer First Class, Electrician’s Mate. He then worked briefly for Chubb as a boiler inspector before becoming a boiler inspector for the State of Connecticut where he worked for 25 years until his retirement in 2020.
Wayne was a man of integrity who sought to uplift those around him. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys and UCONN basketball. He enjoyed reading science fiction novels and watching shows like NCIS, Frasier, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, and Babylon 5.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Townsend of Cleveland, Georgia, and extended family in Connecticut and Arkansas.

There will be no calling hours, and the burial will be private. Wayne will be buried in the veteran’s section at Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford, CT.
