
William 'Bill' C. Sweeney, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of 59 years to the late Wanda (Straska) Sweeney, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, (October 14, 2009) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Lewiston, ME on July 5, 1919, a son of the late Daniel J. and Fannie (Patterson) Sweeney, Bill had been a resident of East Hartford for over 45 years. Bill was a proud World War II veteran of the U.S. Army in the 3rd Army Group-14th Armored Division of Combat Command A as a T-5 Corporal. Bill was a faithful communicant of St. Isaac Jogues Church, East Hartford where he volunteered and attended Bingo regularly on Thursday evenings. Prior to his retirement, Bill was employed for over forty years by Sun Oil Company, retiring as a dispatcher. Bill enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club in East Hartford. He was also an avid ten-pin bowler who participated in several leagues at the Silver Lane AMF Bowling Alley in East Hartford. Bill was a long-time loyal fan of the New York Yankees, and a hard-working gardener, especially of vegetables. He was also a member and past president of the AARP-East Hartford Chapter. Bill is survived by a daughter, Andrea C. Taylor and her husband, Richard, of Colchester; a son, Daniel Sweeney and his wife, Lynne, of Manchester; two nieces; a nephew; and several friends and former co-workers. Funeral services will be Saturday (October 17th) at 8:45 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Church, One Community Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning from 8-8:45 a.m. Memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society , 538 Preston Avenue, P.O.
