William Joseph Hartl

William J. Hartl, 85, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Hartford Hospital on Saturday, February 14, 2026. He was born on May 16, 1940 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Joseph and Mary Hartl (Roginka). He married the love of his life, Dorothy, on October 8, 1960, served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and started a family shortly after. He spent most of his life farming and working as a Heavy Equipment Operator, ultimately retiring from Central Sealing Co Inc, of East Hartford, CT. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed car races, watching basketball, golfing, playing cards, rides around town with his wife in their corvette, walks on the farm with his favorite pal Kit, and spending time with his loved ones.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Hartl, and his brother, Donald Hartl. He is survived by his two sons, Greg and his wife, Laura of Coventry, CT., and Wayne and Jennie of Bolton, CT. He is survived by his 5 adored grandchildren, Karlie and her husband Joseph, Alex, Michaela and her husband Andrew, Leah and her partner Josh 1 and Sarah and her partner Josh 2; as well as his three great grandchildren, Mary, Camden and Jack.

Private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
