William Joseph "Joe" Leonard, of Wallingford, CT, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on December 8, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born in Hartford, CT, on August 25, 1962, the son of the late James F. Leonard of Columbia and the late Joyce Leonard of East Hartford.
Joe attended East Hartford schools, graduated from the Computer Processing Institute and Manchester Community College, and attended Trinity College and a number of other schools to further his technical skills and satisfy his many other interests. His career spanned over 25 years in the IT and business divisions at Aetna and The Hartford.
Joe was loving and loved. He was curious, generous, thoughtful, and a little nerdy—but in a cool way. His super power was always choosing the perfect gift for each person, then taking great pleasure in watching their faces as they opened them. Joe was a lifelong learner, a world traveler, a lover of knowledge and novelty, an avid and eclectic reader, a talented musician, a mathematician, and a computer whiz. His laugh, his quirky sense of humor, his brilliant mind, and his essential kindness are remembered and cherished by those who knew him best.
Joe leaves his brother Patrick M. Leonard and his partner Heather Jackson of Lebanon; his stepmother, Elta-Jeanne (Guillet) Leonard of Columbia; his aunt Janice Sullivan of Glastonbury; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved and will miss him.
Honoring Joe’s wishes, his family wants you to celebrate his life by being kind to someone this holiday season. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of arrangements. Please share your favorite memory of Joe by visiting www.desopoeh.com
