

Carol Ann Shupp, 89, died Friday, August 21, 2026, at Sparrow Memorial Hospital in Michigan surrounded by her family. She was born Carol Ann Edwards, in West Mahanoy Township, PA on October 24, 1936 to the Reverend Francis and Helen Edwards. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Richard Shupp and her brother, Richard Edwards. She is survived by her daughters, Diedre Matthews (Allan), Ruth Liu (Pyramyth) and her son, Robert Shupp (Terri) and grandchildren, Jennifer Liu, Gwyneth Matthews, Katherine Liu, Clare Shupp, Emily Shupp and her sister, Elaine Frick (Stan).
Carol earned a BA in History from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She was passionate about serving her community both locally and nationally. Beginning in the early 1970s, she worked with the University of Illinois Chapter of the YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) on programs connecting University of Illinois students with the Champaign-Urbana community. She later served as Vice-President and President of the University of Illinois chapter and as a board member of the national YWCA from 1982-1994.
Carol also worked for the United Way of Champaign County as a volunteer coordinator from 1985-1989 and continued her involvement as a long serving board member. In later years, she was deeply involved with the Grace Lutheran Church food pantry. In addition to her non-profit work she was also a paralegal at Meyer, Capel, and Hirschfeld in Champaign.
Carol and Frank traveled widely and spent time living in Norway, England, Australia and South Africa. She was a voracious reader; she also loved to swim and was a lifeguard during her college years. For over 60 years, Carol was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, and sang in the choir for almost as long.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran at 313 South Prospect Avenue, Champaign, Illinois on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 am. The service will also be live-streamed. The family will be present from 10:00-11:00 to greet family and friends. A post service luncheon will take place in the Fellowship Hall.
