Alfonso Carpio Jr., (1946 to 2025), passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on May 14, 2025 in El Paso, Texas. Alfonso, was a proud Bowie Bear Alumni who never was too busy to say hello to anyone he knew. Proudly served in the Air Force overseas in London during the Vietnam Era, 18 years on the UTEP Police Department where he served as Asst. Police Chief, where he treated all those, he came across with dignity and respect. Retired teacher from Ysleta High School where he built a courtroom to teach young men and women what the law was truly about, by litigating real court cases in the classroom, was voted Top 10 teacher of the Year in 2001, and was presented the “Kawliga Award” in 2012. Proud member of the Catholic Diocese of El Paso at St. Pius X, where he served as a Sacristan, Minister of Communion, The Office of Religious Formation, Director of the Children’s Liturgy, and Lector. His passion was mentoring and inspiring young men and women in being their very best.
Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mina, sister Lupe and brother Leo, his sons Michael and Richard, and his five grandchildren, Angel, Kevin, Julian, Christopher and Jacquelyn. Preceded in death by his father Alfonso Sr., mother Elena and sister Norma Mota. Mina and Al went on many adventures, throughout the world during their time together and not only touched the lives of their children and family, but also all those that they encountered along the way.
Visitation will be Monday, June 2, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00pm at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79903. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 9:30 am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N Clark Dr, El Paso, Texas 79905. Interment to follow in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, Texas 79906.
