Alicia Treviño

Alicia Treviño passed away peacefully Wednesday morning in her home on February 17, 2021 at the age of 97 in El Paso, Texas. Alicia was born in El Paso on August 8, 1923 to Alberto Treviño and Adelina Escajeda Treviño. This Escajeda family is prominent in the history of El Paso. After being awarded a land grant from Spain’s King Ferdinand VII, they are known as one of the early pioneers to the San Elizario area in 1818. Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Adelina Gwin. She is survived by her sister Luz Herrera, her brother Alberto Treviño and fifteen nieces and nephews. Alicia earned her B.A. in 1944 and her M.A. in 1954 in education at the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1982 she retired after 34 years as Director of Elementary Education for the El Paso Independent School District and was honored for her many contributions to bilingual education in the district. Family and friends would like to thank Dr.’s Muneer and Edward Assi and their staff for outstanding help throughout the last few years. Also, they would like to thank Envision Hospice for their very kind attention in the last days of her life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration at 145 N. Cotton St. in El Paso, Texas 79901. Due to Covid-19 pandemic precautions, services will be private for family.
