Arturo Macias, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024 after a battle with leukemia and neuroendocrine cancer. He was born in El Paso, Texas on December 18, 1951 to Ramon Macias and Soledad Macias. He attended Ysleta High School where he thrived on the basketball team, a time he spoke about fondly. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1971 where he served over eight years, stationed in Germany and Fort Carson, Colorado. While in the Army he was awarded a Sharpshooter Badge and a National Defense Service Medal.
Arturo later built an accomplished career in the garment and manufacturing industries by working at Allen Bradley, American Garment, Lee Brand, Wrangler Vanity Fair, BAE Systems (Armor Holdings), ReadyOne Industries, and Mustang Survival/The Safariland Group. In addition to his employment at these various companies, he worked as a consultant for many others and his expertise was sought after. His career took him all over the United States and abroad. He expanded manufacturing for Vanity Fair in Mexico, overseeing the opening and operations of eight manufacturing plants across Yucatan and Coahuila. He lived and worked in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico; Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico; Phoenix, Arizona; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Spencer, West Virginia; and Jacksonville, Florida. He eventually retired but soon after felt a call to go back to work. His work was one of his great passions in life and he lit up when he talked about it.
His other great passions in life were his family and his hobbies. Arturo loved to golf and maintain the landscaping around his home. Most of all, he loved his family. As happy as he was working, golfing, or seeing the results of a freshly mowed lawn, he was happiest when surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He built a loving family that will dearly miss his positive attitude, sense of humor, and warm embrace.
