June 28, 1933 – July 25, 2020
Arturo (Martinez) Vazquez, age 87, of El Paso, Texas departed this earth while lovingly surrounded by family in his home on Saturday July 25, 2020.
Arturo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Guadalupe Vazquez and by his first-born grandson, Gonzalo Davila. He is survived by his children, Silvia (Javier), Jorge (Deborah), Argelia, Irma (Raul), Edmundo (Maria Teresa) and Elva; grand-children, Veronica (Francisco), Maritza (Jason), Art, Alex (Katy), Ana Victoria (Manuel), Fernando (Diana), Stacie, Cynthia (Brent), Vanessa (Michael), Christie (Matt), Angelica (Jeremiah), Janeth and Tiffany, 23 beautiful great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Arturo was one of eleven children born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on June 28, 1933 to Francisco Vazquez Jimenez and Marta Soria Martinez. He met the love of his life, Guadalupe in Mexico then followed her to the United States when she decided to emigrate. They dated briefly and married in Las Cruces, New Mexico on November 26, 1954. Together they created and raised a beautiful family. He raised his children and grandchildren to be strong, independent, generous and kind. Arturo had a passion for working with his hands, took pride in every single project and instilled in us all the importance of work ethic; “If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time”. His love never faltered and he selflessly gave of himself for the betterment of his family. He brightened our days with his special, silly nicknames, “Space monster, Hijo del Corn and Mex” and lifted our spirits with his make-believe stories of travel and adventure. “Güelo, jefe, el mas guapo, mi señor”, thank you for the countless blessings, for being our rock in times of trouble and for allowing your love to be the anchor of our ship. You’ll forever live in our hearts and memory.

I met Arturo when my family moved across the street. I was 6 years old.Throughout my life he was a constant presence. Always willing to help my family in all ways. His wife Lupita and my mom became close friends. He nicked named me Beauty, yelling it to me from his driveway until I eventually learned to answer to it. What a nice compliment! Arturo became a large part of my life. He referred to me as his other daughter. A great honor to me for sure! A most beautiful and welcome compliment. I had lost both my parents and who better to call Dad than a person so generous, wonderful, funny, kind and loving. I witnessed Arturo leave this world. I know the world will be sadder without him. He is at rest with his family in Heaven and especially his beloved Mariquita. May the Angels guide you into Paradise! You will be GREATLY missed!

My Family and I were Privileged to Know Mr. & Mrs Vasquez thru their Daughter and Great Military Friend, Elva. Not too many friends are Given to Us to be Lifelong Friends, but I felt I knew them since 1980 and once meeting them it was as if they were already our Family. His Legacy Reflects on His & Lupitas Children, Love and Respect towards Others and the Morales and Values instilled in them never forgotten. Our Prayers & Love to All...Ceci
