She was born to the late Alfredo and Concepcion Paz on September 29, 1917, in Ysleta, Texas. She married the late Manuel Fernandez in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1987. Conchita graduated from Incarnate Word and attended Ysleta High School. As a young girl she learned to play the piano and excelled quickly, playing for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, as an adolescent until she had to retire over 80 years later. She taught catechism, belonged to the church choir, the Altar Society, the Parish Council, the Carmelita's, Ysleta Optimist Club, Ysleta Women's Club, LULAC, and various school booster clubs supporting her children. Conchita retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Company after 28 years. She and her husband passed on a strong work ethic, their christian faith and a commitment of service to others.
Conchita will be lovingly remembered by her three surviving children and their spouses: Ida Luevanos, Ysleta, TX, Manny (Irene) Fernandez, Colorado Springs, CO, Margaret (Joe) Aguirre, El Paso, TX, son-in-law Richard Sambrano, Dallas, TX; 9 loving grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren & 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Sambrano, El Paso, TX. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Grace Sambrano, sisters Aurora Arellano and Josephine McVay, brothers Alfredo Paz, Jr. and Louis Paz.
Visitation will be Friday, December 28, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with a Vigil at 7p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Rite of Committal will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 131 South Zaragosa Rd, El Paso, TX 79907.
