Deborah Elaine Prior-Landry transitioned on May 24, 2022 at the age of 65 years young in El Paso, Texas. Deborah was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 1, 1957 to the late James L. Prior and Clara Bell Bryant. Due to the passing of her mother and father, she was raised from the age of 6 by her guardians and maternal uncle and aunt, Mr. James E. Bryant and Mrs. Ada Bryant. Deborah excelled in academics, music, art, and athletics in school in Atlanta. Graduating as the Price High School salutatorian in 1975, she won a full scholarship in English Literature to the prestigious Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. As a student at Vassar, she excelled in English, as well as, in Adult and Higher Education and Counseling. Upon graduation, she embarked upon a career as a College Counselor, working initially in the overseas offices of Boston University, then at North Carolina State University, and at the Engineering Department of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. It was at Vassar that she met the love of her life, Patrick (COL (Retired) Patrick G. Landry), and they married in 1981. She was passionate about caring not only for her own family, her husband, and her children, but also caring for the families of the Army Communities they served, especially at Ft. Drum, New York and Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Deborah was adored and loved by everyone. She loved family gatherings at Christmas, sharing stories over dinner, creating new and unique recipes, playing tennis, and discussing the socio-political themes in contemporary news.
In spirit, she continues to watch over many loved ones who all cherish and honor her extraordinary life. 40 years of marriage brought forth 3 children: Claradith E. Landry, Patrick G. Landry Jr., and Daphney LisAnne-Sinclair Landry. She is survived by her husband, COL (Retired) Patrick Landry Sr., her sister, Annette Willis, her brother James L. Prior Jr. (Linda); sister-in-law, Monica L. Davis and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins to include: Phillip Prior (Rene), Yolanda, Anthony, Veneta, Jarvis, Kenneth, Corey and Brittny Bryant Lott (Richard), and Sherman Davis, Jr. The family extends heartfelt thanks for the care, compassion and kindness she received over the years.
The funeral service will be at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church located at 17 Meldon Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30315 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:00pm ET. Interment will be at Southview Cemetery, located at 1990 Jonesboro Rd SE, Atlanta, GA 30315 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 following the service.
