Dora was born on October 13, 1946, in Saltillo, Mexico, and raised with her sister, Margarita Garcia-Guerrero, by their Uncle Marcos Recendez. In the years to come, Marcos, Dora and Margarita made their way to El Paso, Texas. This is where Dora met her soulmate, Gil Torres, Sr. and the two married in 1965 and started their family.
Dora was not only a homemaker raising three sons, but she also worked outside the home for Hortex Manufacturing Company/Billy the Kid, Inc. Dora was a joyful person with a big caring heart. She was known for being a true friend and loved her family above all else. She cared for her Uncle Marcos until his death in 2012 and was a dedicated grandmother to her two grandchildren. “Rita”, her beloved Chihuahua, was always by her side. She loved to cook, dance and made friends with everyone she met. Her favorite pastimes were playing poker on Friday nights and visiting casinos. Dora is remembered for her beaming smile and vibrant laugh.
Dora is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Gil Torres, Sr.; Children: Joel Torres (Helen Torres), Gil Torres, Jr. (Heather Torres); Jose Angel Torres (Jeanette Torres); Grandchildren: Armand Torres and Liliana Torres; and countless close family members.
On behalf of the Torres Family, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff with El Paso Community Home Health and Hospice of El Paso for providing excellent care to Dora in her final days.
