Peanut was born on August 11, 1942, in El Paso, Texas. He enjoyed growing up with his family in the Clardy Fox Addition. As a youth growing up in the 2nd Ward, he would walk by a peanut vendor everyday going to and from school and would buy a bag of peanuts. Everyone would then say, “ay viene el cacahuate”. Therein he would be forever known as “Peanut”.
He grew up on De Vargas Street, attended Franklin Elementary, Bowie and Thomas Jefferson and graduated from El Paso Tech High School.
Peanut was known to help his father who was a plumber and learned this trade over the years. He would often comment that his father reminded him of a doctor on call, because his father would receive calls at all hours from neighbors and attend to the problem and would not charge them. This was a character trait that he found to be admirable and would also help others himself and would not charge.
He was employed for Safeway and Fort Bliss as a plumber. He served his country in the US Navy and received his Honorable Discharge.
Upon his return he participated in joint ventures in local night clubs such as, Que-Que, Night Life, Peanut Gallery, Bobby Sox, Coco Club, Body Shop, Take Five and Caesar’s Lounge. Over the years he acquired many lasting friends and made sure they were having a good time, enjoying music and receiving quality service.
He also enjoyed a round of golf at most of the local courses in El Paso, a few good spirits, food and never got to make that hole in one.
In his last days of battling gastric cancer, God permitted him time to repent and ask for forgiveness, to reconnect with his children and grandchildren and time to enjoy their company. He will now be able to see his DAD, MOM, and Sister in Heaven and rest in eternal peace.
This world has lost a righteous man and in this world that is no small thing. “He fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith”. 2 Timothy 4:7
