Hermanski, Sarah Kaitlin Marcilionis, Gabriel Marcilionis, Stephen Marcilionis, Olivia Andrea Cuarόn, Liam Antonio Cuarόn, and Dylan A. Dominguez.
She attended first grade at Alamo Elementary School and continued her elementary education at Roosevelt School. From there she went to Bowie High School and graduated with her high school diploma. She went to complete her Bachelor and Master degrees at University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education she began teaching first grade and later on taught second grade. Later she completed her Master degree in Elementary Education.
Before attaining her Bachelor and Master degrees she taught at Memorial Park School (does not exist anymore). Here she taught and worked with children and young adults who were considered educable and/or trainable. She realized how much she loved working with children and young adults and went on to pursue her education at UTEP.
Eva taught in several schools in the El Paso area. Some of the schools are Hart, Burleson, Cooley, Alta Vista, and Wainwright schools. She also taught at Mount Carmel Catholic School after retiring from El Paso School District. During her teaching career, she worked long hours. She chose to do everything she could to better the lives of her children. She spent many hours after school tutoring and helping parents. She would stay after school several hours until time to close the school building.
Eva was recognized for her teaching excellence and was mentor to several beginner teachers. She had numerous student teachers under her tutelage. Some of these teachers have gone on to do many excellent things in the community.
One of Eva’s many outstanding tributes is her volunteer work. She volunteered as a teen at Hotel Dieu. Later taught catechism at different Catholic Churches for several decades. In her later years she volunteered at Del Sol Hospital engaging with patients as was allowed by hospital policies.
Besides all she did in the community, she helped raise a grand-nephew who calls her grandma. She was always ready to help her neighbors and friends by driving some to the hospital, doctors, and doing errands for them. There were times when neighbors with emergencies called on her to drive them to the hospital in the middle of the night.
In the early 2000s Eva professed as a Secular Franciscan at Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She always belonged to and was involved in Secular Franciscan communities. One of her highlights is visiting the Holy Land and visiting all the sites she was familiar through teaching the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Eva will be missed by her family and friends who spend time with her the last years. She had a tradition in her later years she followed almost to the end. She and her siblings and cousins would get together for lunch once a month and would reminisce about the good old days.
In thanksgiving for Eva’s care the last years, are her caregivers who were devoted, constant, loving and deeply caring for her. They are Juanita Salazar, Lizzete Salazar, Armida Armendariz, Maria Sepulbeda, and Elvira Venegas.
Eva, we bid you farewell April 8, 2022 and may you rest in God’s bosom. We will always remember you with care and love you gave so willingly and lovingly to children, family, and to others.
