George Kelley 96 a resident of El Paso, TX passed away at his residence surrounded by his three daughters. George was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on December 18th, 1929 and graduated high school there on June 7th, 1948. After high school he moved to Chicago where he was hired by Walgreens which led to him to taking another job with Walgreens that moved him to New York. While working for Walgreen’s, Mr. Kelley was drafted in to the United States Army on June 27th, 1951 to assist with war efforts during the Korean War and was discharged honorably on June 26th, 1953 as a corporal. After his time in the Army, Mr. Kelley traveled the country working as an aircraft mechanic for Land Air, Inc. During his travels, Mr. Kelley learned of an employment opportunity in Alamogordo, New Mexico at White Sands Missile Range where he was hired to work as an Electronics Technician from November 6th, 1955 to December 30th, 1985.
At the start of his employment at White Sands, Mr. Kelley purchased his home for his wife and kids in December of 1959 in Northeast El Paso. Mr. Kelley was certain to make sure that all of his kids knew that was their home to come home to any time they needed to and in his later years, this also became true for all of his grandchildren and any other kids he helped to raise and care for. Not long after purchasing his home, Mr. Kelley became a Property Broker and started his own real estate company named Northeast Properties of El Paso with his close friend Mr. Broderick. Once retired from White Sands, Mr. Kelley purchased a motorhome and began to take his family and his close friend Carol Wheeler on trips for what would be many years.
Mr. Kelley loved to visit and talk with all of his family, friends and neighbors and gave advice to anyone who would listen on giving back to their community and how to handle finances as he did very well for himself when it came to those matters. As many recall, his favorite saying was “I’m a gunna is not going to get it done”. Mr. Kelley was always there to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it and would never complain if it was night or day, hot or cold or if it was doing electrical work, plumbing or turning some wrenches on a vehicle. If you called Mr. Kelley for help, he was coming to get you and help you.
Many years, Mr. Kelley had a housekeeper named “Lupe” who took care of all matters at the Kelley residence even when Mr. Kelley wasn’t there and if anyone made the mistake of calling her the “maid” they were quickly and curtly corrected and told by Mr. Kelley that she was the housekeeper and what she said goes when he was not there and she did not take direction from anyone but him. Lupe was family and making the mistake of suggesting otherwise made for an uncomfortable situation. When Mr. Kelley’s first grandchild was born by his middle daughter Sharon, Sharon called upon her Dad for help and both she and Richard were given the best gift of growing up in that house with Lupe and Mr. Kelley.
Mr. Kelley is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Iva Kelley, his daughter in law Robin (Meyn) Kelley and close friend Carol Wheeler. Mr. Kelley is survived by his Daughter Teresa Kelley of Sargent Texas, Teresa’s daughter Sara Kemper of Cypress Texas, Teresa’s Son Chester (Chad) Kemper IV of Sargent Texas and seven great grandchildren. Son Randal R. Kelley of Hanover, Kansas and Randal’s son Daniel R. Kelley and his wife Mai of Hanover Kansas, Randal’s son Travis Kelley and wife Elizabeth of Portland, TX, Randal’s daughter Morgan Soriano and husband Thomas of Chicago, Illinois and 7 great grandchildren. Daughter Sharon Kelley-Hall and Husband Loyd of Slagle Louisiana, Sharon and Loyd’s son Richard Kelley and wife Brandy of New Llano Louisiana and one great grandchild. Daughter Penney Kelley of Whitesboro Texas, Penney’s Daughter Carol Whitsitt and Husband Ben of Guam, Hallie Stuve and her Partner Jimmy of Dallas Texas, Penney’s daughter Stephanie Austin and Husband Travis of Callisburg Texas and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Texas 79903. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 9:30 am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, Texas 79906, with military honors.
