Georgette Frances Garcia-Kaufmann

May 21, 1970November 15, 2020

Georgette Frances Garcia-Kaufmann, an assistant attorney general and life-long resident of El Paso, TX, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at age 50. She was born in El Paso on May 21, 1970, the daughter of the late George E Garcia and Gloria Garcia (nee Castaneda). She is survived by her spouse, Daniel , son Connor George, age 17, mother Gloria Garcia and many loving aunts and uncles and cousins. Georgette graduated from Loretto Academy and attended the University of Rochester, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English. It was at the U of R where she met her husband Daniel Kaufmann. They married shortly after graduation in 1998, and recently celebrated their 22nd Anniversary on November 13th, 2020. Together Georgette (Gigi) and her husband Daniel attended and graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law with a Juris Doctorate (JD) in 1998. Gigi was an assistant attorney general with the Office of Attorney General Child Support Division in El Paso since 2013. She represented the state in court cases involving the establishment and enforcement of child support. Gigi was a devoted wife and mother and a deeply spiritual lady who attended church regularly. She was a lifelong lover of animals, owning two cats, Tat and Peanut, and feeding and caring for the many outdoor stray cats that found their way into her backyard. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, having an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She loved to travel and enjoyed family cruises to Alaska and other exotic locations, as well as driving all over Texas to watch her son compete for Salle De Long Fencing School. A funeral service is being scheduled for Sunday, November 22nd with burial at Evergreen Cemetery East in El Paso on Monday, November 23rd. Due to Covid 19 these restricted events will remain private. Flower donations may be sent to Funeraria Del Angel on Montana Street, El Paso. Memorial donations may be sent in Georgette's name to St. Josephs Catholic Church on Travis Street in El Paso. The family appreciates all of the prayers and concerns extended to us during this time.

Georgette was my mentor, lifelong friend and colleague. Georgette selflessly contributed her wisdom and skills to patiently enhancing my success as her managing attorney. Georgette prized integrity and kindness, which transcended her customer service, friendships and parenting. Most of all, Georgette was a devoted mother. Georgette balanced her professional life with her family duties, establishing an enduring example of how to love and serve your family, while leading in your profession with poise and dignity. She was exceptional in all walks of life. It appeared effortless, because she sacrificed in silence. She enabled others to shine, including myself, without expecting anything in return. Nevertheless, my gratitude to her for sharing her brilliance and discernment is endless. She was indispensable and unforgettable. To her precious son, take comfort in the memory of a remarkable woman, who lived the life of a good and faithful servant. Her footprints are etched in your memories, heart and mind. You can talk to her, still, as she watches over you from heaven. She breathed life into the sage, timeless words of Henry Wadsworth Longsfellow: "Lives of great men all remind us, We can make our lives sublime; And, departing, leave behind us; Footprints on the sands of time; Footprints, that perhaps another, Sailing o’er life’s solemn main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again. Let us, then, be up and doing, With a heart for any fate; Still achieving, still pursuing, Still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait." 'Psalm of Life'.

I had the pleasure of being Georgette and Daniel’s Managing Attorney at different times and different offices. While Georgette was a great attorney and an asset to the OAG, what most stood out about her was her love for her husband and son. She and Daniel regularly met for lunch and always did things together. She was a doting wife and mother. She loved her family and the community of El Paso. My first year in El Paso I turned 50 yrs old over the Christmas break. I was new and most of the staff didn’t really know me yet. So the day came and went without fanfare. Georgette caught wind of it and the next day brought me a cake she baked at home. She had a strong sense of justice whether it was in the law or the small thoughtful gestures of daily life. At only 50 she is gone far too soon. Rest In Peace.

GGK was by far the best attorney in our agency. I have worked for the Texas Attorney General for close to 33 years. She is by far one of the top three that were the best. She was smart, positive and all about customer service internal and external. So professional and someome who had a heart for the people and the children. . She was loved. .She made a huge impact on me. The best daughter, wife, mother and friend, and coworker in the world. Just the best person i have ever been in contact with in all my tenure at the oag. So comforting and encouragng. I loved her. She was there in my darkest moments with the agency. 😢💔 God bless God speed. 🙏🏽

Gigi was the kindest soul! A calm in the storm. She put family first and would not allow anything to shake that bedrock. She leads with love, and the world is a darker place without her. Our love to Danny, Connor, and the whole family. We are here for you, and we love you!

Dear Kaufmann family,
There are no words to express my grief for your loss. I first met Georgette while we were both young lawyers pregnant with our babies. Connor was born exactly one week before Bella and we used to trade stories on the 11 floor together about our greatest joys and juggling law and motherhood.
Georgette was one of the few lawyers that treated everyone with utter respect - from lawyers, to the most difficult of litigants. It is such a rare quality in lawyers and one I truly admired.
I will miss her smile, her humility and her grace. All my love, light and prayers to Dan and Connor.

Dear Kaufmann Family,
There are no words that could express my sorrow for your loss. Gigi will forever be remembered as a loving, smart, amazing mother and daughter, and great friend.
During the time we had the pleasure to share our lives with yours during fencing competitions with our children, or the times that she and I had wonderful conversations over a cup of coffee, we experienced her beautiful spirit and kind heart.
My family and I send you our deep condolences, and a hug we wish we could give you to express our love and respect for such an amazing woman. May Gigi rest in peace.
