Georgia Ann Boekee Crow was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in September 1936 to George and Rose Boekee. She grew up in Des Moines and Dallas, Texas, along with her three sisters—Elizabeth, Rose Mary and Loretta—and the beloved family duck, Friday.
In Dallas, she graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1951, and soon after earned her nursing degree from St. Paul’s Nursing School. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain before retiring in 1963 in order to marry Thomas Alan Crow, an enlisted soldier. After marriage, they lived in Germany and a number of U.S. states, before settling in El Paso, Texas, in 1974 to raise their family of four children.
She led a full nursing career as a civilian, first in pediatrics, helping to open Sierra Medical Center, soothing her young patients in part by wearing scrubs she made out of vibrant, fun fabrics. Later, in the early 1980s, she served the retired Sisters of Loretto at Nazareth Hall. She worked nights throughout so she could be home when her kids got home from school.
Aside from sewing clothes, she was an accomplished quilter, and was almost never without a crochet hook nearby, to make progress on afghans, doilies, runners, potholders or whatever else might strike her fancy. And she and Thomas loved bowling with friends when they could spare the time.
She died peacefully on the morning of January 7, 2026, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her parents, and her older sister, Elizabeth. She is survived by younger sisters Rose Mary Burkard and Loretta Hunter; daughters Theresa Crow and Suzanne Crow; sons Gregory Crow (married to Tracy Crow) and Michael Crow (married to Kathryn Medland); and grandchildren Eli Crow, Sabrina Crow and Margaret Crow.
