Our father passed away of natural causes on Saturday, July 8, 2017, in El Paso, Texas. He had just turned 79 years old in May.

Heinz Fischer was born on May 12, 1938 in Neumünster, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Curt Karl and Anna Maria Elise Fischer.

Heinz Fischer apprenticed in wholesale goods before becoming a Nike Rocket Specialist in the German Air Force (Luftwaffe). While in the Luftwaffe he was stationed in El Paso where he met and married our mother Betty Mae Nebhan. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 after his tour of duty was finished. In El Paso, he worked filling cigarette and snack vending machines while studying to be an electronics technician at night. After completing his training, he worked for 3M Copy Machines installing sound systems and new color copying machines in the Southwest region. He later worked on the Space Shuttle nose cone rockets and several missile systems for LTV, and then for Lockheed Martin Corporation as a Test Program Manager, mainly for the Multiple Launch Rocket System until he retired in 1998. He was a great cook and was skilled in many fields – a jack of all trades.

Heinz Fischer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Nebhan Fischer, his brother Kurt Fischer and his wife, Wilma, and his granddaughter Jennifer Michelle Fischer.

He is survived by his brother Gerd Fischer and his wife Ingrid, his son Curtis and his wife Alison, his daughter Anna Marie Moreland and her husband Rodney, his grandchildren Heidi and Jonathan Fischer and Luke and Micah Moreland and many nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas, on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00am. Burial with his wife, Betty, will be directly afterwards in Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. To accommodate family and friends not in El Paso, a Reception will be held at Matthew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:30am.
