I remember taking my young family to visit Aunt Helen and Uncle Joe during one our family sabbaticals to El Paso. Suzie and Aunt Helen were sitting in the kitchen, drinking coffee. Uncle Joe was on the couch and our boys were rambunctious, tearing through the house. lol Uncle Joe would tell a few jokes, and one could feel the laughter peeling off the walls. In the arched, green, worn doorway was the "growth spurt" wall. All the usual culprits were on the adobe.... picture a line, a name, and the year. Butch, Barbara, and Cindy had several marks. My brothers and sister also made the highlight wall. Now it was time for our boys. They lined up, straightened like a new arrow, and got the pencil mark right above their heads. The right of passage... our boys were deemed a part of the family... so much so that their names were etched with those who stood before them. Suzie and I felt very honored. Then, of course, Aunt Helen brought out the sweets and everyone dug in. In recent years, Aunt Helen and I would talk on the phone. She was a great listener and we shared the latest news and family happenings. She was really into health talk and got me to buy CoQ10...."Mike, take this everyday and you will live a very long life!" This sweet lady was such an integral part of our family's life. We love you Aunt Helen and will see you again, sitting beside our Lord and Savior.

I met Aunt Helen 37 years ago after I married her nephew, Mike. She was so sweet and loving; I felt a kinship with her from that first meeting. I felt like I had known her all my life - she was the typical 'aunt' that everyone wants! She was an avid collector of things - old and new; her home was like an antique store filled with all kinds of goodies to rummage through - old clothes, old dishes, so many things from years gone by. Another bond we had was our love for coffee - I remember walking into her house and smelling the aroma of a fresh pot wafting from the kitchen along with fresh baked goods; it was such a treat to visit her. She was a special lady and a special aunt who we loved so much and we are going to miss her greatly. I know she is with her Lord Jesus now and I know we will see her again one day in Glory!!! We love you Aunt Helen - love, Sue
