Irma graduated from Loretto Academy High School in 1971; and went on to achieve academic excellence at the University of Texas at El Paso. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with honors and was recognized for her dedication and intellect through numerous accolades. Irma was selected for Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was a proud member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Her leadership extended to serving as secretary of the Pre-Law Association and contributing to the Judicial Branch of the Student Association as well as the Traffic Court Justice.
Professionally, Irma dedicated her career to serving her community as a Juvenile Probation Officer with the El Paso Juvenile Probation Office. Driven by justice and compassion for youth, Irma also loved traveling to Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
Beyond her professional achievements, Irma was an extraordinary artist whose talent left an indelible mark. She was renowned for her replication portrait of the Virgen de Guadalupe, which is displayed in the Basilica on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City. Irma was granted not only special permission, but the privilege to study the original basilica portrait. Irma meticulously wove the maguey plant to use as the canvas and recreated the masterpiece using authentic materials akin to those found in the original artwork. Her masterpiece can be admired at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 3729 Hueco Ave., El Paso, TX.
Irma’s artistic gifts were matched by her kindness and warm heart. Her compassion for others and radiant smile lit up any room. Irma embraced her independence and lived life on her own terms. She was a beautiful person who touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Maria de Jesusita Talamantes; sister, Irene Chaparro; brother, Joe Talamantes Jr.; and nephews Angelo Chaparro and Matthew Edward Talamantes. Irma was preceded in death by her father, Jose "Pepe" Talamantes, and brother Edward "Eddie" Talamantes.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm with a celebration of life and recitation of the rosary at 2:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Texas 79903.
