Jose Antonio Olivas, age 88, of El Paso, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Jose brilliantly fought a long and difficult battle with his kidneys the past few months. And on this day, the good Lord called him up to be with our mom. Jose was born October 5, 1932 to Concepcion Olivas and Conrado Olivas.
With the help of our Grandmother, dad enlisted into the Air Force, served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant, with distinction, including the following medals earned, Occupation Japan, Korean Service, United Nations Service, Good Conduct.
In his second career, and the industry he retired from, was in the transportation industry. Working for various companies, beginning as a clerk working his way up to the coveted position in the sales arena. Dad always said, "everything you see, furniture, appliances, automotive, clothing in one way or another, moved on a truck".
Dad always liked to take his "big giant" walk. Walking the park, after things became dangerous walking from downtown El Paso to downtown Juarez. One of dad's hobbies, his biggest, was playing the ponies, at his favorite track in Del Mar, CA. "Where the turf meets the surf". Dad also liked attending El Paso baseball, from the Sun Kings to the Diablos. He really enjoyed the atmosphere.
We are greatly going to miss his humor, his advice, but most of all, just being able to reach out to him to talk.
Jose is survived by his son Michael Olivas; his son Lawrence Olivas (Elizabeth Olivas); and his daughter Patricia Oaxaca (Oscar Oaxaca); his sister Teresa Bonnaud; his granddaughter Candy Villegas, his grandson Christian Oaxaca, his granddaughter Celeste Oaxaca, his grandson Justin Olivas, his grandson Austin Olivas, his granddaughter Amy Olivas, his grandson Nathan Olivas, his great grandson Jonathan Villegas, his great grandson Matthew Villegas and his great-granddaughter Brittney Villegas.
