Josefina M. Acuna

Josefina M. Acuña, 90, went to be with our Lord on September 3, 2014. Born on March 19, 1924 in El Paso, to Pedro and Maria Montes, Josefina grew up with one brother and three sisters. She was a member of the Bowie High School class of 1942. Throughout the years, she owned and operated several bakeries, including Sun Valley Bakery in central El Paso with her husband Juan (Johnny) Acuña. With him, she discovered her love for traveling in their RV and enjoyed days spent either dancing or swimming. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, and always generously welcomed them into her dining room with a full table. Through her passion for baking, she took special pride in her delicious pies and cookies. Until her late years, she remained very active as a Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick Cathedral and as a member of Bowie High School Alumni Association.

Josefina is survived by her son Charlie and Nora Acuña; daughter Sandra; grandchildren Christa, Carlo, Craig, Greg, Rene and Diana Acuña; Rodolfo Parra; Michelle and David Reed. She is also survived by three sisters, Guadalupe Rios, Gabriela Morales and Petra Garza; one brother, Pedro Montes; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous dear friends and relatives. Josefina is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Maria Montes, husband Juan Acuña and son John Acuña. Pallbearers: Carlo Acuna, Rene Acuna, Alberto Sierra, Ramon Sepulveda, David Reed and Rodolfo Parra. Honorary pallbearers: Michael Abeyta, Jose David Escobar, Gilbert Garza and William Haddad.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life and look forward to the day they are united again. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home (3839 Montana Ave), with a rosary recited at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held on September 6, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral (1118 N. Mesa). Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery (401 S. Zaragoza Rd).
