Joyce L. Jastrzembski, a long time resident of El Paso, died Saturday, January 2, 2016, after entering home hospice care. Joyce was born Joyce Lewis in Princeton, WV and attended Dorland Bell High School in North Carolina and later the University of Texas at El Paso. Her math proficiency led her to be trained to repair radios on B-17 bombers during WWII. Later, she started at the Texas School of Mines as an engineering student but a traumatic accident in 1946 cut her education short. In 1947, she married John R. Jastrzembski and during their 67 years of marriage they lived in Monterrey, CA, Fulda, Germany, and Fort Bliss, TX. When John retired from the Army in 1958, he and Joyce made El Paso their home. A loving homemaker, Joyce later completed her college degree in accounting and worked as a book keeper for a number of years. She and John were long time members of St. Raphael's Church. Joyce always loved to read, and she completed the newspaper crossword every day. Joyce never said an unkind word about anyone and was always willing to help. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Edith Lewis, her husband, John R. Jastrzembski, her sister, Rose Mae Lewis, and her brother, Robert Lewis. They had 5 children: Joyce Elaine, Paul, Rose Anne, Joseph, and Roberta as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her children, Joyce Elaine of El Paso, Paul of El Paso, Rose Anne (Lopez) of Albuquerque, Joseph and his wife Zoe of Minot, ND, and Roberta (Palmer) and her husband John of San Antonio.
