Kevin Andrew Menchaca, lovingly known as Andrew, was born on May 20, 1988. From the very beginning, Andrew was a fighter.
Born with Prader-Willi syndrome, Andrew was given odds that he simply refused to accept. His doctors told his family that he would not live past his first year. Later, they were told that children with Prader-Willi syndrome often did not live past the age of 13.
Andrew proved them wrong.
He didn't just beat the odds—he lived beyond them. He blessed his family with 38 years of life, laughter, music, dancing, football, and countless memories.
For most of his life, Andrew lived in a group home in Eastland, Texas. He was also lovingly cared for and raised by his grandmother, Stella Menchaca, who played such an important role in his life. Stella's love, dedication, and care helped shape Andrew's life, and the bond they shared was one that could never be replaced.
About eight months ago, Andrew's brother Alex Menchaca brought him home to El Paso so Andrew could be closer to his family. What began as bringing his brother home became an unexpected gift of time—eight precious months of having Andrew nearby, making memories, sharing everyday moments, and simply being together.
Those eight months will forever be treasured by Alex and the entire family. They may never have known that their time together would be so short, but they now have those memories to hold onto for the rest of their lives.
Andrew had a way of finding joy in the things he loved. He loved the music of Los Rieleros del Norte, and if the music was playing, there was a good chance Andrew was ready to dance. He loved the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and was especially excited about watching them play this year. He looked forward to football season and proudly carried his love for his team.
Most of all, Andrew loved being surrounded by people who loved him.
He was the beloved son of Steven Menchaca and Vicente and María Cazares.
He is survived by his siblings, Melinda Luevanos (Carlos), Alex Menchaca, and Dominic Menchaca; his niece, Eleanor Grace Luevanos; and his nephews, Andres Luevanos, Adam Luevanos, and Leonardo Luevanos.
He is also survived by his aunts, Velma Delgado and Elizabeth Garcia (Eugene), and his uncles, Herman Delgado and David Menchaca.
Andrew was preceded in death by his aunts, Carmen Armendariz and Teresa Hernandez; his grandmother, Linda Cazares; his grandfathers, Andy Delgado and Leo Menchaca; and his beloved cousin, Al “Cana” Marin.
He leaves behind his grandmothers, Stella Menchaca and Estela Delgado, who loved him dearly.
Andrew's passing was sudden, and the shock and heartbreak of losing him is difficult to put into words. His family is left with an enormous emptiness, but also with the comfort of knowing just how hard Andrew fought to be here and how much love surrounded him throughout his life.
He was never defined by his diagnosis or by the limitations others placed on him. Andrew was defined by his determination, his joy, his love of music and dancing, his Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders pride, and the people who loved him.
He was given a life that doctors never expected him to have—and he made every year count.
Andrew didn't just beat the odds. He became the exception to them.
His journey may have ended far too soon, but the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever.
Dance on, Andrew. Turn up the Rieleros, cheer for the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, and save us a dance.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a prayer service at 2:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903.
