She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1951 and married her high school sweetheart Ernesto Carrizal Jr. in December 1955 upon his return from military service. Luz supported her husband in opening their own construction company, overseeing all aspects of the business as well as caring for her grandchildren. As with her husband, Luz loved cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and UTEP Basketball teams, hardly missing a game, and visiting her favorite city of San Francisco, CA. Her green thumb and love of gardening were evident in the flourishing year-round garden she was incredibly proud of. A life-long proponent of health and education, Luz could be seen many times beating the sunrise for her daily walk and encouraged every single person she met to obtain their degree in higher education.
Luz is survived by her daughters Cynthia Acosta, Corinne Shepherd (Glen A Shepherd) and Mary Brower (Richard Brower); her sons Ernesto Carrizal III (Lupe Carrizal) and Michael Carrizal; her brother Lorenzo Gaytan (Clara); her sisters Mary Cavin, Elva Smallwood (Michael Groemling), Norma Gonzalez (Angel), Hortencia Ceballos (Refugio Ceballos); her granddaughters Casey Acosta (Alvaro Sifuentes), Sarah Acosta, Amelia McEachin (Joseph McEachin) and Abigail Shepherd; her grandsons Diego Carrizal and Jonathan Brower (Lindsay Brower); her great-grandsons Gael McEachin, Noah Brower and Kai Brower.
Luz was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Ernesto Jr., mother Amelia Baeza Gaytan and father Feliciano Gaytan; brothers Fernando and Rodolfo Gaytan; and sister Guadalupe Gaucin.
