Born and raised in Alice, Texas to Pablo & Elida Canales. Lydia graduated from William Adams High School in 1955 and then attended St. Mary's Academy Hall in San Antonio. In 1960, she married Juan Trevino. After working in accounting for several years, Lydia earned her degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&I University in 1987, where she was inducted into the Spanish Honor Society, and she dedicated her career as a bilingual educator.
Following her husband’s passing in 1991, Lydia moved to Houston where she taught at Lantrip Elementary, retired from teaching in 1999 and then settled in El Paso. Here, she faithfully served the St. Pius X Catholic Church community in various volunteer roles which enriched her life through service, friendships, cultural experiences and art.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Trevino, and her daughter, Lilia Ramirez.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Raymond Trevino and Eva T. Longoria; sons-in-law, Jesse Ramirez and Roger Longoria; and grandchildren, Danielle Longoria and Moses Ramirez. Siblings Pablo Canales, Eva Leckman, Rudolfo Canales and Dolly Thorton. Sisters-in-law Anna Herrera and Gloria Trevino as well as the nieces & nephews who she loved and cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 5:30 PM in the St. Pius X Catholic Church Chapel 1050 N. Clark Drive, El Paso, TX 79905
