Margarita Morales

Margarita M. Morales was born on September 10, 1929, in Ciudad Camargo, Chihuahua. She lived in El Paso, Texas, where she raised her four children. She was a devout Catholic whose faith was at the heart of her life. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and participated in church and other organizations, including Cursillista, Coro, Las Guadalupanas, Sacramento Senior Citizens Center, and the Elite International Singers. Margarita was a woman of many talents who walked with the Lord in everything she did.

During her career, Margarita worked and volunteered at Hill Heaven Convalescent Home, where she eventually retired.

Beyond her work and church, Margarita found great joy in singing, dancing, and helping others. She loved mariachi music and always stole the show with her singing. For many years, she volunteered at St. Anthony’s Seminary Bazaar/Kermés, where she and her friends became famous for their delicious gorditas. Everyone knew them as “The Gordita Ladies.”

Gorditas were certainly not her only specialty; she also made the best fried chicken this side of the mountain. She somehow managed to win nearly every round of Lotería, loved gardening (marigolds were her favorite), and enjoyed crocheting. Sewing items for her family and friends was also her passion. Many of her beloved kitchen aprons are still in circulation today.

Margarita spent most of her life in El Paso and her final 11 years in San Antonio with her daughter, Hilda, and son-in-law, James. As the matriarch and the center of the family, she filled the home with love, laughter, and fun. She painted, spent time with the family’s beloved pets, and even went street racing with her grandson. Her quick wit and humor will be deeply missed.

Margarita lived a full and colorful life, filled with faith, family, laughter, music, and love. We are blessed to have been part of her life. Her laughter, stories, traditions, and love will live on through the many lives she touched. She will forever remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Margarita was preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Morales, and her sons, Ernesto Morales, Jr., and Jorge Morales (Minerva).

She is survived by her daughters, Hilda Morales Roybal (James) and Maria Del Rosario Martinez.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Crystal, Johanna (Ricky), Ariel, Israel, Jorge Jr., Michael, Arlene, Erika (Louie), Tony (Ursula), Theodore (Amber), Bryan, Mathew (Gabrielle), Nicholas, and Elisha (Dillon).

Her great-grandchildren include Nadine, Sean, Priscilla, Audrey, Adlyh, Mateo, Athalia, Aylein, Luca, Arie, Iyla, Keyla, Daniel, and Aaron.

Margarita’s legacy is one of faith, love, laughter, generosity, music, and family. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain with us forever

All services will be held Friday, September 4, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Texas 79903. Vigil will be held at 11:30 am with a Funeral mass at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2709 Alabama St. El Paso, Texas 79930 with the committal to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery 401 S. Zaragoza Rd. El Paso, Texas 79907.
