Tia Maria was born on August 2, 1959 in El Paso, Texas to Jose Jacobo and Bernarda Jacobo. She grew up with many siblings, often making trips to nearby Juarez. She graduated from Bel Air High School and, a few years later, met her husband, Jose Banuelos. Soon after, they married and had two adoring daughters, Angelica Jacobo and Annette Banuelos.
Tia Maria was hardworking, kind, genuine, selfless, thoughtful, and loving. Her superpower was balancing the rigors of being a full-time mom, wife, and entrepreneur while always finding the time to prepare one of her delicious meals. Everyone loved her cooking and a favorite was her chili de colorado.
Tia Maria’s favorite pastimes included traveling with family, lounging on the beach, and knitting keepsake gifts. She loved working with her hands, making floral arrangements, mums, and various crafts to give away or sell. Tia Maria always remembered everyone’s birthday and special occasion. She was everyone’s favorite tia, sister, and friend, due in large part to her positive energy and contagious laugh.
Tia Maria loved and cared deeply for her grandchildren and was always there for them. Likewise, she was also there for all her nieces and nephews over the years, often lending an open ear for their problems. Her positive, go-get ‘em attitude, even during her difficult health issues, was an inspiration to all of us. She will missed more than words can say.
Tia Maria is survived by her loving sisters and brothers, Martha Flores, Gabriela Baldwin, Jose Jacobo, Alma Webb, Silvia Obrien, Carmen Munoz, and Bernardo Jacobo, as well as her daughters, Angelica and Annette; her daughter-like-niece, Yvette Baldwin, and her grandchildren, Giovanni Nathaniel Banuelos, Matthew Cole Banuelos, Audrey Bella Frye, and Jonah Chase Martinez.
A Memorial Service for Maria will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12400 East Montana, El Paso, Texas 79938, followed by a prayer service at 2:00 PM.
