Gloria retired from The El Paso Independent School District. She was a baker and later became a cook at Cooley Elementary. She held various jobs in her younger years. She worked at Borden's Creameries and at a Candy Shop ( where they made the candy) and even as a Caregiver. She was a great Homemaker, who loved to bake and cook, she made " Sopaipillas," homemade Flour Tortillas, and baked delicious Oatmeal Cookies. She prepared and made the Turkey, Stuffing and Waldorf salad for "The Family Thanksgiving Dinners" till her late 80's. She knew how to de-bone a turkey and roll it up and cut it up in slices. She loved sewing and made her own curtains for the entire house. She also loved Gardening and had the most beautiful Rose Bushes. She also had Membrillo Trees, whom her mom had planted, and would make us the most delicious Empanadas ever. She was a woman of Faith, truly "An Angel," which shined bright through her "Flame of the Velita." Furthermore, she was a great dancer and loved music, singing, puzzles and reading. Even towards the last days of her life, reading heartfelt books and cards are what brought her joy and a big smile to her face. She was a dedicated hardworking woman who got things done rapidly. She was "The Glue, that held Our Family together." She was a very helpful and generous person, who would think of everyone first, before herself. She was someone you could confide in and trust. She was a very patient person and a good listener. Anyone could go and talk to her about anything and everything, and she would make you feel great. She taught us about dignity and morals. The Legacy she left behind is hard to beat. She was the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend anyone could ever have. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her because of "Her Special Touch."
Gloria was born to Jovita and Jose Palacios, whom preceded her in death, also her husband Oscar Chacon (The Love of her Life), her only son, Oscar (Chappy), her siblings, Guillermo, Irene and Hortencia (Tencha).
Gloria is survived by her beloved daughters: Olga, Sandra (Henry), Debbie (Danny), and Grand-children: Monica, Oscar (Trae), Clarissa, Chris, Nicholas, Danika and D. J. She had ten Great-Grandchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
