She loved and appreciated her family and friends. She was a faithful servant of Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church where she served for over 40 years most notably as Chaplain of the Dolan Chapel.
Angelita (Jelo) was born and raised in Smeltertown (La Esmelda). She used to fondly relate wonderful memories of her childhood spend there with her cousins. She graduated from St. Joseph
Academy (affiliated with Loretto Academy). She studied formally to become a concert pianist. In 1957, her family and her moved to the Dolan-Val Verde area where she lived until her death.
She was a devoted daughter to her parents, Ramon Martinez and Soledad Armendariz Martinez, who predeceased her. She is survived by cousins, Ramiro Escandon & family, Carmen E. Aguilar & family,
Socorro Escandon & family, Emilio A. Lopez & family, Emma Gonzales Lopez & family, Jesus Gonzales & family, and Willie, Raul, and Rosa Armendariz & families. Angelita (Jelo) was loved and will be sorely missed by the Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church community who she also considered her family.
She retired from the YWCA Child Day Care Center (Salazar) where she served as a care provider for children.
Visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Rosary at 6:00 p.m., at Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central, 3839 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79903. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church (Dolan Chapel) 355 Dolan St., El Paso, Texas 79905. Committal service will follow the mass at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Honorary pall bearers are Ramiro Escandon and Emilio A. Lopez.
