Colonel Marie Louise Rodgers, 91 years old, of Birmingham, Alabama and El Paso, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Colonel Rodgers was an Army nurse who retired with over 26 years of honorable military service in 1976. She was a veteran of both Korea and Vietnam Wars. She served in France, Puerto Rico, Germany and numerous stateside locations. She retired from William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. Her military awards include: The Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/10LC, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and numerous other awards. She was a lifetime member of The American Legion, Post 832 with over 26 years of service.
She was predeceased by her father Christopher Reese Rodgers, mother Charlotte Rodgers, her brothers Samuel A. Rodgers, Maurice Rodgers, Christopher Rodgers, sister Charlie Bell. She is survived by her nephews: Christopher Reese Rodgers III, Darryl C. Rodgers, Jon P. Rodgers, Samuel A. Rodgers, Joseph Flowers and Walter Flowers; leaving behind numerous fond memories. She is survived by her nieces: Maria Denise Flowers, Angela Flowers, Gwendolyn Rodgers-Franklin, Yasmin Satti, Linda Rodgers-Lewis, and Cynthia Grant; who all have a piece of her strength within themselves. And she has inspired her great-nieces: Brittney Anderson, Jasmin C. Rodgers and Maya A. Grant. Marie’s good friends Glorious McGill and family, Gwen Mapp and family, Rosa Salazar-Hines and family and Sister Brown have cared for her and took her in as family during her time in El Paso. Marie loved the Shiloh Baptist Church family, Pastor Ponce Brown and Mrs. Brown. She is deeply loved and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, April 30, 2018 from 6:00-9:00pm at Martin Funeral Home Central with Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Graveside service will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 10:30am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.
