Mary Bencomo, 93, of El Paso passed away peacefully into eternal rest on May 9, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. A devoted Catholic, passionate mother, grandmother, and friend, Mary leaves behind a legacy of character and faith.
Mary was born on November 30, 1931 to Jesus Rodriguez and Carlota Ramirez Rodriguez. As a child, Mary was spirited and curious. She was often outside riding horses or reading a book. She had a determined spirit and a lifelong love for reading.
In 1950, she married a Navy man, Hector Bencomo. Together, Hector and Mary shared 61 years of marriage and 6 children. Hector and Mary devoted their lives to serving others. They were active in their church communities and respective Catholic parishes. As members at Our Lady’s Youth Center, they would serve the poor, were ministers of the eucharist, and leaders of Marriage Encounter. They found their strongest bond while serving the Lord and raising their children.
Mary was a woman of unwavering faith. She served many roles in the church, but her true calling was always ministry in Juarez. Mary found her place in the food bank serving the less fortunate or praying for the elderly and sick. Her days always began and ended with a rosary and prayer, and her heart was always open to preach the word of the Lord.
She was preceded by her husband, Hector, and her eldest son Robert. Even through her grief, her faith never wavered. Mary is survived by her children James, Mary Arlene (William Minsloff), Richard Daniel (Rosemary), Jacqueline, and Nadine (Luigi Pereira). She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren.
