Melvon, 

Thank you for always supporting our family and for the kindness and love you showed throughout the years. One of my favorite memories will always be your dance moves, the way you were the life of the party and the amazing meals you prepared for us. You brought so much joy and laughter to those around you, and that is how I will always remember you. Your memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved you. Rest in peace.

I will always be grateful to you Melvon, whom I affectionately called Big Bear. I will miss celebrating holidays and birthdays with you. You always had a plan for celebrating and never took no for an answer. A  friend who always took the time to call when I was away for too long. I will miss being your  personal barber. I know you are celebrating with my angels in heaven.

I would like to express my gratitude for the life of Melvon & the impact he has made on our family, now & for generations to come. He was a powerful role model to my husband, showing him what a devoted & hardworking husband & father should be. I saw the love & care he poured into his family, his home, & everything he owned. Through his example, he taught my husband to care for his belongings so they would last, & to nurture his relationships with the same dedication. Even when bedridden, he made sure his wife received flowers for special occasions. His eye for detail extended to the way he hosted family gatherings, offering generous spreads that made everyone feel welcomed & cared for.
Melvon loved color, & he made sure his surroundings reflected that—from multi colored lights, to plants in every corner, to a lime green painted fence. I remember during one of my visits to their house on Yvette Street, he had my husband paint the doors red. At the time, I thought it was the oddest thing, not knowing it would eventually become a popular style years later.
I cannot speak about Melvon’s decor style without mentioning his unique personal style—something only he could pull off. From his polo shirts paired with basketball shorts to his jumpsuits that gave him room to show off his dance moves, his personality always shone through. And those dance moves… if there was music, Melvon found a way to create his own dance floor, & before long, his grandkids would join in on the “grandpa moves.”
Lastly, I am grateful to Melvon for guiding me into the life of a military spouse. Before Jesse & I moved away to live on our own, he offered thoughtful, heartfelt advice that I carried with me – from maintaining my military housing quarters to being mindful about who I allowed into my home. His guidance helped shape the confidence & responsibility I needed as we started that new chapter.
Every good & perfect gift is from above; Melvon is one of those gifts to our family. Love, Liz De La O

You will always be remembered for your kindness, your warm heart, and the incredible barbecues that brought everyone together. I will always smile when I think about you and my husband, Juan, playfully calling each other “dog” and “cat.” The two of you shared such a special friendship, and your laughter brought joy to everyone around you.

You will be deeply missed. Today, I find comfort in believing that you and Juan are together again. Melvin, please give him a big hug from me. I know the two of you are already laughing, joking, and enjoying each other’s company once more.

Rest in peace, dear friend. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
