Ollie Louise McAskill Barrow, 80, of Katy, Texas, surrounded by family and with a strong and abiding faith, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2023. She will truly be missed and forever cherished.
Ollie Barrow was born on January 30, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas to John Hugh McAskill and Nona Burrous. Ollie was the youngest of four daughters and loved spending time with her sisters. Ollie was young when she met and married her, also young, husband of 37 years, Wayne Lee Barrow. Together they had four children, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. They were last stationed at Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas so they settled in with their family.
Ollie owned and operated a successful floral business in East El Paso for 25 years. The years after closing the business and military retirement, Ollie and Wayne loved traveling (Las Vegas was a favorite), spending time with family and ballroom dancing competitions.
Following the untimely passing of her loving husband (age 58), Ollie found comfort and strength from her family and faith in God. One of her favorite bible verses was “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13 NIV).
Ollie is survived by one sister, Nona Ruth Greenhill; four children, Larry Wayne Barrow (Susan) of Katy, Texas, Lisa Gail Toy of Houston, Texas, Lynette Kay Cutrer (Chris) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Lori Ann Barrow of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren, Amanda Wientjes, Michelle Allen, Josh Winnett (Larissa), Heather Maciel, Kimberly Barrow (Jonathan) and Jonah Barrow; and eight great grandchildren, Jayden Dues, Jayce Dues, Kyler Samuels, Kynlee Samuels, Tate Winnett, Alyssa Warner, Parker Winnett and Noah Warner.
Ollie is predeceased by her loving husband, CW3 Wayne L Barrow, her parents, John Hugh McAskill and Nona Burrous, her step-father, Jack Burrous, her great aunt Mattie Mae McAskill, her sisters, Barbara Jeanette McAskill and Virginia Ann McMeans.
Ollie Barrow was not one for formality or pomp and circumstance; therefore, it was her wish that she not have a formal viewing or visitation, but a small graveside service, which will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, Texas 79906.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.evergreenfheast.com for the Barrow family.
