On Friday June 18, 2021, Rachel Swearingen, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Rachel was born on April 17, 1929 in Robertson County, TN to the late Ralph and Nell Clark Eidson.
Rachel spent much of her life traveling and lived in many places including Germany, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL, Kwajalein Missile Range, Marshall Islands, El Paso, TX, and Tucson, AZ.
Rachel was a kindergarten teacher at Redstone Arsenal and started a daycare for the First Baptist Church in Clint, TX. She had a love for children and a passion for education. She was also very active in church and the Women’s Missionary Union at First Baptist Church in El Paso.
Rachel was especially fond of traveling and enjoyed her many trips to Europe and the Hawaiian Islands.
Those who knew Rachel, saw her shine in all aspects of her life. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed dearly.
Rachel is survived by her daughter Suzanne Johnson (Larry), her four grandchildren Michael Johnson (Meghan), Daniel Johnson (Nicole), Jennifer Barry (Danny), and Kayla Jonczyk (Alex), her four great grandchildren Harper, Wyatt, Madelyn, and Olivia as well as her daughter in law Hayle Swearingen. Furthermore, Rachel is survived by her brother Ralph Clark (Tom) Eidson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachel was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Swearingen, and son Barry as well as her sisters Lois Eidson and Sue Day.
Funeral Services will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Central, (formerly Martin Central Funeral Home), 3839 Montana Avenue, on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 am, Service 11:30-12:30pm and burial to follow at Ft Bliss National Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at First Baptist Church, El Paso for the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) in Rachel’s name.
