Raul “Ruly” Villa died on April 15, 2018 with his family by his side, one week shy of his 76th birthday. A lifelong El Pasoan, Ruly was a 1959 graduate of El Paso High School, attended Texas Western College and ran a successful upholstery business for many years.
Ruly enjoyed sharing time with friends and family, telling stories and jokes around the family table, as well as around the tables at the old Cappetto’s and Moe’s, Great American on Alabama, Shangri-La, Villa del Mar, and L&J. He loved reading, oldies and trio music.
Ruly is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lourdes “Mary” Villa, children Diana Guitard, Susana, Lourdes Minton (Don), Esther Hughes (Dax), Raul, and Omar (Christina Sanchez) as well as grandchildren Michelle Guitard (Andrew Kropff) and Danielle Guitard, Luke and Claire Minton, Quincy and Cassius Hughes, and Luna and Leo Villa. He is also survived by siblings Carlos (Elsa), Anita, Rita Pulley (Jesse), and Roberto (Becky), aunt Ramona Barragan, in-laws Alfonso (Lucy) Diaz, Arturo (Elna) Diaz, Cecila (Javier) Vasquez, Maggie Diaz and Lupe Diaz, numerous nieces and nephews, and members of the Barragan and Salas families. He is preceded in death by parents Hector and Ana, siblings Maria Cabrales and Hector, and aunts Rita Villa and Elisa Salas. Visitation 5-9PM with vigil at 7PM at Martin-Central, Thursday, April 19th. Funeral 9AM at St. Patrick Cathedral Friday, April 20th; internment to follow at Evergreen East.
