Richard Maestas, age 81, of El Paso, TX passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife of 58 years, Terri, or as he lovingly called her, “Dear”. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. He met the love of his life at just 21 years old and married a year later. He had just returned home from his tour in Germany while in the US Army and would be joining the El Paso Police Department where he would spend the next 24 years.
He would have 3 children that he just adored. During his early years, you could find him at Caballo Lake where he would be showing his kids how to water-ski. He loved riding his Harley with his son where he took a memorable motorcycle road trip to the Grand Canyon. He also enjoyed hunting with his friends. There was no task too big for Richard, from rebuilding the motor on his prized Ford pick-up truck to remodeling an entire home to teaching himself how to drive an 18-wheeler.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, yes, even during the bad years. He developed a love for basketball because his grandkids played. He would often travel to watch them play. His quick wit and sense of humor kept those around him always laughing.
He was as kind as he was strong. He never passed up the opportunity to help someone in need. Richard and his fellow motorcycle officers collected and delivered toys and blankets for the children in need in Juarez. During cold weather, Richard and Terri could be found handing out delicious sandwiches and warm soup to the homeless near their home.
He was a devoted Catholic who instilled deep faith and values in his children and grandchildren. He prayed daily for his family, friends, and even strangers. He taught his family how to pray.
A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, March 24, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a vigil at 7:00 Pm followed by refreshments from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79903.
