Roberto Velasquez, 90, of Mercedes, TX. went to be with our dear Lord, May 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his children in the comfort of his own home. Roberto was a devoted father who was an excellent provider, witty, courageous, and disciplined. He believed in family values. Dad was a hands-on teacher who taught his children to be independent, responsible, and to never be a quitter. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed, and be forever remembered in our hearts. Roberto was an all-around athlete who lettered in football and excelled in track at Mercedes H.S. He proudly served 4 years in The U.S. Air Force. He went on to graduate from El Paso Tech. During his post at Biggs AirField, he met his sweetheart, Emma Bautista, at a NCO dance. Dad was a loving, dedicated husband to his wife, Emma, for 57 years until her death. Roberto worked as a charismatic, skilled salesman for Fred Hervey at Paramount Meat Company for twenty years. Dad and Mom were successful business partners who owned and worked ardently at 5 Points Laundromat, and several properties. Roberto enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking/grilling for his family. He was fond of all vocational trades including plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work. Dad worked relentlessly on mechanical breakdowns, and property improvement projects.
