Ronald James Schelli Jr.

James graduated from Apollo High School and received some college credits from Western Kentucky, formerly Owensboro, Kentucky. From early on, he carried himself with a steady sense of purpose—meeting life with quiet bravery, guided by wisdom earned through experience and marked by genuine compassion for those around him.

James served in the USA Air Force, a career that reflected his commitment to something larger than himself and the disciplined strength with which he approached life.

On October 8, 2016, he married Clara Herrera. James’s love for family was central to who he was, and it was evident in the care he gave, the time he shared, and the steadfast presence he offered to those he loved.

He found joy and focus in remote control car racing, wood working, and puzzles—interests that spoke to his patience, thoughtfulness, and the calm satisfaction he took in working with his hands and mind. James attended and worshipped at Faith Baptist Church.

James is survived by his wife, Clara Herrera; his mother, Charlene Schelli; his sisters, Rondi (Rick) Burden and Joli Glover; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronalds James Schelli Sr., and his loving maternal and paternal grandparents and great grandparents.

A memorial service accompanied by Air Force Honors will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
