Sara was born to Maria and Vicente Rodriguez on July 28, 1942 in El Paso, Texas. She attended San Jacinto Elementary School where she participated in the school spelling bees. In 1955 she was declared Spelling Champion of San Jacinto School by the El Paso Herald-Post. After working a couple of years at Farah Manufacturing, Sara left to enroll at UTEP where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. Her career spanned 30+ years, with the majority of those teaching 3rd grade at Ysleta Elementary School. She also taught several years in the El Paso Independent School District at the beginning and end of her career.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother to her son Billy, her pride and joy; adoring grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her close-knit family celebrating holidays, birthdays or just because. She also enjoyed traveling, crocheting, reading, gardening, and sewing.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, William Matyear, son William Matyear Jr., her parents, sister Angelina Rodriguez and brother David Armando Camacho.
Sara is survived by her sisters Carmen Jacques and Alicia Rodriguez; grandchildren Athena (Geoff) Matyear and Lauren (Alexey) Gubina; as well as Sandra Russell who was a daughter to her and Bill Russell who was loved as well; their children who were also grandchildren, Christopher Russell, Whitney (Walter) Rearick, Nikki (Anthony) Williams, Kimberly Russell, 5 great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and friends who love her. Her guidance, inspiration and generosity touched the lives of everyone around her.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79903.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N Mesa, El Paso, Texas 79902 with a Committal Service to follow at 12:30 PM in Restlawn Memorial Park, 4848 Alps, El Paso, Tx 79904.
