Sara Rubio, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away December 23, 2021. She was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua on September 2nd, 1931. Sara and her dearly departed husband, Alonso, planted a seed to the beautiful legacy left behind for their 13 children, 34 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren (plus one on the way) and 1 great-great grandchild. Their love story began with a simple conversation that ended with an exchange of a Concha (Mexican pastry) in 1953 that conquered Alonso’s heart. “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” she said on a few occasions and according to Tio Alfredo, all it took for grandpa was a Concha. Both would migrate to the United States in 1968 and later become proud business owners and US Citizens. She instilled in their children love for their new country, while embracing her Mexican roots and raised her family based on hard work, a whole lot of love and daily special prayers.
Doña Sarita Rubio had a generous heart and would help all in need. She was selfless with her love and generous with her heart.
She cooked thousands of meals for her family and had countless “Menudasos" for those she loved. Her amazing cooking was a simple daily heart-felt love letter from her to us. Her traditions of “Soul Food Love” will continue to be passed on to generations to come. She loved being a mother more than anything in the world and showered her family and loved ones in prayers and bendiciones for decades. She enjoyed family time, good company, rarely said no to a Michelada or a “vasito de vino rojo”, and always said her goodbyes with a “Dios te bendiga.” The love Sarita and Alonso shared made countless beautiful memories that will live in those that loved her. They paved a way and provided opportunities for their children to have a better life than what they knew in their early years in Ciudad Juarez.
Sara Rubio is preceded in death by her parents, Mariano Martinez and Jovita Calvillo. Preceded in death by her siblings Maria Elena Torres, Mariano Martinez, Alfredo Martinez and Pablo Avila. Sara Rubio also preceded in death by her husband, Alonso Rubio, son Alonso A. Rubio Jr., and her granddaughter Christy Garcia-Mata.

The love Sarita had for her family will be cherished and remembered by those she loved and cared for with all her heart. The Lord led her to her eternal home and will forever be loved and remembered as a woman of strength, love and generosity.
